Recap: BMS Alliance Webinar – Advancing Next-Generation Battery Management System

On October 8th, 2024, the BMS Alliance hosted an insightful webinar bringing together four pioneering EU projects: NEXTBMS, BATMAX, NEMO, and ENERGETIC. The event offered a comprehensive exploration of the latest advancements in battery management systems (BMS) and their impact on the future of electrified transport and energy storage. Participants had the opportunity to hear directly from technical coordinators leading these projects, with a session that included both in-depth presentations and dynamic interactions with the audience.

Highlights of the Event:

  • NEXTBMS: Hansjörg Kapeller, Research Engineer at the AIT Austrian Institute of Technology, highlighted the project’s cutting-edge approaches to multiphysical modeling, simulation, and control of electric drives. NEXTBMS focuses on optimizing battery management for a range of electrified vehicles, ensuring efficiency and reliability.
  • BATMAX: Dr. Mikko Pihlatie, Research Professor at VTT, shared insights on the BATMAX project’s innovations in Li-ion battery technology. With a focus on high-performance and sustainable solutions, BATMAX is driving advancements in electrified transport by enhancing battery safety, efficiency, and scalability.
  • NEMO: Dr. Sazzad Hosen, Senior Researcher at the MOBI Research Group, VUB, presented the innovative modeling techniques based on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) developed by the NEMO project. These techniques aim to enhance the accuracy and performance of battery diagnostics, contributing to the long-term sustainability of energy technologies.
  • ENERGETIC: Prof. Ahmed Samet from INSA Strasbourg and ICube Strasbourg delved into the ENERGETIC project’s approach to next-generation BMS, utilizing data-rich Digital Twins to optimize battery performance and lifecycle management. The project aims to set new standards for BMS through predictive analytics and advanced data integration.
